If you've been to a nomad fest, you know the feeling. A week of good talks, fun people, a few nights you only half remember. Then everyone scatters. You fly out with a handful of new mutual follows on IG and Telegram and a loose plan to stay in touch. Most of them you never speak to again.
That format worked. For years it was exactly what the movement needed. Ten years ago, going nomad was lonely and confusing, and a fest was where you found your people, found your next destination, and learned how to keep the lifestyle going. But the movement grew up. A lot of us have been at this long enough that the intro talks don't land anymore, and the novelty of "anywhere" has worn thin.
CosmoLocal CNX is built for what comes next.
We're not trying to be another nomad fest. CLCNX is a gathering that could only happen in one place, Chiang Mai, in one neighborhood, Wat Ket. Networking with the other people who flew in is part of it. But the bigger point is connecting with the place itself and the people who actually live here, so you leave remembered, not just remembering.
A fest can happen anywhere. This is location specific.
A nomad summit is location-agnostic by design. The same format runs in Bansko, Madeira, Mexico City, Da Nang. That flexibility is the whole pitch. The place is a backdrop. The hotel could be any hotel.
CLCNX flips that. Wat Ket isn't a venue we booked. It's the subject. The AI track is about AI for Chiang Mai. The Food track is built around our local seed-to-table scene. Solopreneurship connects nomads with local builders, young Thai talent included, not a generic build-your-brand workshop. Nomad Futures Lab is built around Wat Ket itself, the district we're turning into a Nomad Friendly District.
If you've done a pop-up city, you know the catch.
Maybe you were at Zuzalu, or one of the pop-up villages that followed. If so, you already get the magic: a temporary community built on purpose, dense with sharp people, alive for a month. You also know the catch. It's built on borrowed ground. When the month ends, the tents fold and the world you built disappears. Everyone goes home and the place goes back to being a place.
CLCNX runs the pop-up format inside a living neighborhood that was here long before us and stays after we're gone. The community doesn't evaporate. It plugs into something real. Locals are in the room, not adjacent to it. That's the difference between a month-long experiment and the start of actually belonging somewhere.
The talks are more grounded.
Most summits aim at people still deciding whether to go nomad. So the content stays introductory, and if you've been doing this a while, you've heard all of it. That space is saturated.
We built CLCNX for the seasoned end of the room. The content assumes you already work remotely, already travel, already know the basics. What you probably don't have is a way into Chiang Mai that goes deeper than the cafes and the coworking spaces. That's what the tracks are for.
Connecting with locals, beyond the transactional.
Here's the current version of settling in Chiang Mai. Most people connect with locals one of two ways: they marry in, or they pay for services. If you want to build something here, hire local talent, or actually live inside the culture, there's almost no on-ramp. Everything else feels transactional.
CLCNX is that on-ramp. We find the locals and nomads who actually want to meet each other, look for the common ground, and facilitate the rest. Names get remembered. Knowledge moves both directions. You share what you know with people curious about this life, and locals teach you the thing no track can, which is how to live here in a way that's welcome.
That last part matters more than it sounds. Nomads are a privileged group. We carry resources and knowledge most people don't have access to. A lot of us want that to count for something in the places we land. CLCNX is where it can.
What we're building isn't only good for the people who buy a ticket. A neighborhood that knows how to welcome nomads, and nomads who know how to show up well, makes Chiang Mai better for everyone who comes after. That's the bet. A better way to arrive somewhere and mean it.
Anthony Bourdain said it better than we can:
"Travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that's okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind."
That last line is the whole idea. Come take something with you. Leave something good behind.
